The Near North tourist area makes up the area east of Sudbury around the town of Hagar and St. Charles, north past Temagami, east to Mattawa and a little south of Burk's Falls. You will find North Bay, Powassan, Sturgeon Falls, Marten River, Trout Creek, South River and Sundridge in the Near North.
The Near North gets it's name from it's close proximity to the large population centres just south of this area. You will find granite cliffs and towering white pines among the many lakes in the Temagami area. There are sandy beaches on Lake Nipissing, and wonderful canoeing along the Mattawa and Sturgeon Rivers. You can follow the same routes used by the historic Voyageurs and imagine yourself exploring this vast and beautiful wilderness.
You can visit this area in any season and find something exciting to capture your attention. Trail systems abound, camping or fishing both in winter and summer, snowmobiling and dog sledding in winter, historic towns and villages at any time, and 14+ museums, artists, and craftspeople for indoor pursuits.
The scenery is spectacular, the living quiet, and the fishing world class. The people in this area are friendly and waiting to be your next new friend.
