Valley Inn in Azilda My wife and I recently travelled to Northern Ontario. With little knowledge of the area, and having to stay many miles away from Sudbury, we made reservations to stay at the Valley Inn in Azilda. We arrived late at night, were utterly exhausted, and couldn't wait to rest in our Motel room. We had, however, an absolutely horrible night. The motel had a band playing in its bar that played past two in the morning. We called the front desk several times, but no one ever picked up the phone. Too exhausted to drive and find another place in the area (if there is one, because we don't know where to find one and if a room would have been available if we did find another motel) we tried to make the best of it. The room was mildewy, had an outside door that didn't lock properly, and was generally dirty and in poor repair. The next day we tried to talk to the owner and discuss the possibility of there being some kind of consideration for our awful night. When an employee asked him to come out and speak to us, he refused--he would not talk to customers--tourists!--who were not satisfied with their stay. He didn't care! Northern Ontario has much to offer--it's a beautiful place! But the area's tourism will not survive the poor, incompetent service of irresponsible business people. This is a warning to other consumers on their way to Northern Ontario. Avail yourself of the many wonderful businesses in the area. But we cannot recommend, based on our experience, that you stay at the Valley Inn in Azilda. We encourage you to go to the area, but of course be careful of who you choose to do business with. The trustworthy, "brand name" businesses you may ordinarily patronize may not be available. There are wonderful small businesses in N. Ontario, but like you would anywhere else, be careful and choose wisely. All the best. When he was notified of the posting of this submission, this gentleman wrote us again to say....   Apart from our experience at the Motel we enjoyed our trip to N. Ontario. We were particularly taken with the cute and interesting little downtown in Sturgeon Falls where we purchased a great piece of art (and cheap, too!) directly from the local artist. I could go on...   But thank you for the note and your stewardship of your great website. Hopefully others will heed the advice and stay away from the motel. We love N.
