Cutler Lake Lodge, Massey Ontario
This year my husband and I decided to take our vacation here in Canada. We first visited and then settled upon Cutler Lake Lodge south of Massey Ontario. We fell in love.
At the lodge we stayed in a two bedroom housekeeping cabin. Heated, lights, full bath, dishes, bedding, all included (not exactly "roughing it"). Situated between two lakes, (why should you have to settle for going to "the lake" when you can have two?) we felt we had truly stepped out of time. It's quiet out there. It's slow out there. It's heaven out there. Cutler Lake is where the sun sets, and it really knows how to set in style. Every evening's show was a grand performance. Maple Lake is where the sun rises over misty water and the sound of loons.
My husband likes to fish and I'm a vegetarian "tree hugger'. We were both happy there. The fishing was great, the conservation areas nearby a treat for us both. We did some boating, saw many types of birds, including cranes, loons, hawks, and things we could not identify but looked cool. We found places nearby to ride horses and go golfing. Both happy again.
I think the best part of staying at Cutler Lake were the people who run the place. Their website says something about having been around for 100 means that they've had time to get it right. It's true. The service was wonderful, the food even better. Did I mention that if you don't feel like cooking in your own housekeeping cabin, you can walk up to the lodge and have some awesome food cooked for you? We left feeling like we made new friends, and knowing we'd be going back. Thank you Gwen and Rolly!
