I Screen, You Screen
Sometimes all it takes to lift a tired look out of
the doldrums is a reshuffling of existing pieces, and an “anchor
accessory” to tie it all together. Often you can create that something
spectacular, with something as simple as a screen.
With a little space planning, screens can be an excellent example of an
elegant makeover of any room, with little effort.
Think Japanese Soji Screen, think French doors, think metal and canvas
combinations. Or, to project the specific personality of a given space,
a custom screen is always a fabulous focal point that makes a personal
statement. A good designer can work with you develop to this piece.
Together, you can create a piece of architectural interest that can be
relocated throughout your home over the years.
Place a screen in your entryway to define your space and it will allow
you to designate a particular area of floor space, as the distinctive
“Foyer” area.
Have a second look at your bedroom. There may be a window in the room,
which you think constrains where you can place your bed, for instance.
Place a screen in front of the window however, and, voila! It can act as
a backdrop to your headboard, and it opens up a whole new world of
wonders to your space plan.
A screen is the perfect divine divider to disguise a home office in a
long, rectangular family room. Place it on an angle and let the
furnishings flow from it, which will trick the eye into widening the
space. A screen can also camouflage a chaotic kitchen, distract from a
disorderly storage area, or provide the visual impact that revitalizes a
dull corner.
Yes Martha, when it comes to defining space, I screen, you screen, we
all scream for a screen. For décor that delivers, start with a screen as
an anchor accessory.
