Logical Medicine

Hi folks! My name is Dr. Nancy Rebellato, ND. I am a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at Rebellato Heath Centre in Sudbury, Ontario.

I have started this column called Logical Medicine in response to public demand for clarity of information on health, the workings of the human body, and effective treatment.

As the name implies, logical medicine, requires logic. Logic involves reasoning and is defensible on the grounds of 1) consistency of facts, 2) correct conclusions drawn from deductive reasoning about the facts, 3) conformity to natural laws.

As a doctor, I need to provide medicine and treatment that I trust, that gets results, and that is based on a logical approach. Throughout my search for truth in medicine, I have ready many, many books on the basic sciences of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology, along with books on natural therapies including nutrition, herbs, acupuncture and Oriental medicine, homeopathy, water cures, physical therapies such as massage, chiropractic, Bowen, Craniosacral Therapy, and psychology and lifestyle counseling.

Most confusing is the area of nutrition. There are hundreds of books on nutrition including the Zone diet, high protein, blood type diets, vegetarian diets, the Atkins diet, and so on. All the different choices in nutrition were enough to boggle my mind and bring me to a standstill in my practice. I was finding it difficult to bring clarity to others when I didn’t have clarity myself.

So I did what I always do when I’m confused: I go back to basics. In natural medicine, the basic building block is food. “So,” I asked myself, “where can I go to find the definitive answer about nutrition and what food we should actually be eating?”

After many months of searching, I discovered that the basic food and hygiene laws outlined in various books of the Bible formed the basis of all other books written. There it was in black and white in the books of Genesis and Leviticus!

What impressed me about these natural laws was that, despite the lack of science at the time, these laws were based on an intimate knowledge of the internal workings of the human body and knowledge of biochemistry, especially the breakdown of food, (particularly meat) in the human liver, thus providing the logic behind food choices. The other thing I found out through my four years of practice is that medicine doesn’t work very well without the healing power of God and an adherence to the basic food and hygiene laws handed down to us of in the Bible. It became so clear and so simple.

How did I come to this conclusion, you ask? Well, let me tell you a little bit about myself and the torturous route I took in becoming a doctor:

I was born and raised in Sudbury to Italian-Canadian parents. Nutrition was our way of life. While studying commerce and economics at Laurentian University, I visited India on a student work exchange and sprained my ankle in the Himalayas. I was treated with a homeopathic remedy and could walk the next day. I was impressed!

Around 1992 I became ill and close to death having contracted Hepatitis C, a condition that the modern medicine had no tests or cure for. I was brought back to life and health by the grace of God and two naturopathic doctors. The logic, efficiency and effectiveness of naturopathic medicine impressed and inspired me to study medicine and begin my practice in 1998.

I now have close to 800 clients all of whom have a great need for proper information and truth in a world full of choices of food, hygiene, lifestyle, many of which make no logical sense. Therefore, my main objective is to unravel what is false and uncover the truth and bring clarity so that your health choices will be clear.

So my goal, through this column, is to provide knowledge through facts, a logical approach to health, and back up this information with the basic laws outlined in the various books of the Bible.
