Many people come to me and ask, “What should I eat?”
This may sound like a funny question, but in a world of a multitude
of choices, people are becoming confused as to what is good for
them, and what is actually harmful.
I may be dating myself, but I can remember when Canadian Olympic
skier, Nancy Greene, advertised Mars chocolate bars for energy.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. Even before that, cocaine
was used in the original coca-cola and was marketed to housewives to
give them ‘a lift’ after a day of drudgery of housework and
childrearing. Can you imagine?!!!
Today we are inundated with choices for fast foods of all kinds, and
they all look luscious, don’t they? These commercials are especially
designed to make us want things that our bodies don’t actually want
or need, but appeal to our psyche somehow and make us feel deprived
if we don’t have them and make us feel emotionally better if we do
have them – at least in the short run.
So the message is this: use drugs when you’re exhausted, instead of:
eat excellent supportive food that sustains your energy in the long
term and get fresh air, exercise, and the appropriate amount of rest
daily.
While the idea of eating nutritious food, and getting fresh air,
exercise, and rest sounds good, what does it actually mean?
Nutritious Food
Nutritious food consists of food that was designed to work with our
bodies to provide the maximum amount of nutrients for the building,
repair, and maintenance of each and every cell, including cancerous
and diseased cells.
Nutritious food provides minimal waste for elimination; and this
waste has the ability to nutrify the soil and supports the cycle of
life and growth.
Nutritious food is nutrient dense. This means that only small
amounts of food will meet our needs because nature conserves its
resources when close to God’s original design.
Nutritious food is clean and free of pesticides and poisons.
Nutritious food is alive and full of enzymes and energy that you can
feel when you eat these foods. You should be energized by your food,
not feeling as if you need a nap.
Does a bag of chips do that? No!
Fresh Air
The human body is comprised of approximately 80% water and requires
oxygen to live. In the absence of oxygen we die in 4 minutes. The
quality of the air is responsible for the quality and amount of
energy we have and the efficiency and effectiveness of our body.
As everything we eat, drink, breathe, and absorb through our skin
must be metabolized and cleaned by the liver, you can see how easy
it is for the liver to become diseased and cancerous in the presence
of poisonous air.
Rest and Exercise
One day it was pointed out to me that I was tired and frazzled
because I didn’t get enough rest. I knew I got enough sleep since 8
hours refreshed me, but how much rest did I actually need? What kind
of exercise do we actually need?
The moment I posed that question to myself, I attracted the answer a
few hours later at my Wisdom Seekers course entitled, “Stranger on
the Road to Emmaus”. We were studying the book of Genesis in the
Bible, and there it was in black and white in Chapters 1 and 2: God
rested from the evening to the morning and on the seventh day. Then
I thought to myself “If God needs that amount of rest, maybe I need
that amount of rest too…” So I tried it and it worked. I felt
significantly better, was more productive, joyful, creative, and had
more time for my family and friends. It was so logical.
This may be helpful for all you people out there who have chronic
fatigue that are on a million committees in the evenings…
Then I asked myself, “What kind of exercise do we actually need, or
at least, what were originally designed for?” Again, there it was in
Genesis Chapter 3: God walked in the garden. He didn’t do aerobics.
He didn’t do kickboxing. He walked.
Then I wondered what we were actually designed to eat. Back to
Genesis Chapter 1 – we were given every herb bearing seed (every
seed-bearing plant) and all trees that have seeds of their own kind
(every tree that has fruit with seed in it).
What does this mean for seedless watermelon – which by the way
cannot reproduce and will become extinct if the small amount of
seeds they are grown from get damaged in any way. Please buy seeded
watermelons, not genetically engineered ones. We don’t know what
they do to us since they are not designed for our bodies, and an
agricultural practice of this kind cannot be sustained in the long
run. We want our grandchildren to be able to enjoy watermelon too,
don’t we?
Now, Genesis Chapter 1 doesn’t mention anything about meat. That’s
because we were originally designed to be vegetarians. Things only
changed when were sent out of the Garden of Eden and estranged from
God. The environment changed and deteriorated further after the
Great Flood. At that time, the human life span was shortened and we
began to eat meat.
Then I asked myself, “Which meat is actually the best? Does pork
really make your insides unclean and cause cancer?” Absolutely.
Leviticus Chapter 11 outlines all the food laws that were required
for maximum health. We were given all the animals that had both a
split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud. This includes
ox, deer, sheep, goats, but not pigs. Will somebody out there please
tell me if a cow has a split hoof that is completely divided…I know
they chew the cud.
Normally for a yeast-free diet I will have clients eliminate pork,
pasteurized milk and dairy products, genetically engineered wheat,
and fish that are bottom feeders (because they are scavengers). Sure
enough we were originally designed to eat fish that have fins and
scales.
To sum up what it is that we should be eating, our food should
consist of 8 to 10 servings of fresh organic fruits and vegetables
per day. Our protein sources should consist of the ‘clean’ meats
which produce fewer toxins in the liver, ocean going or cold water
fish that have scales and fins such as salmon, tuna, mackerel,
trout, halibut, and of course, beans, lentils and legumes mixed with
organic brown rice or other whole grains to make a complete protein.
To maximize the absorption and assimilation of the nutrients from
our food, we need fresh air and exercise daily, and we need to rest
each evening and at least one whole day after six days of work.
Sounds simple doesn’t it?
So as you can see, God actually gave us a blueprint for living a
happy, healthy, balanced life. Now if only we could follow it!
I hope this article has brought logic and clarity to basic nutrition
and lifestyle so that you can make better choices for your life.
