Information for Ontario
Ontario's Rainbow Country Region

Rainbow Country is the
area from Parry Sound in the south end, Massey in the west, and the
area north of Sudbury. It includes all of Manitoulin Island, the
French River area, Pointe au Baril, Nobel, Moon River,
Espanola, Killarney, and all of the Sudbury Region.
The Rainbow County area offers a large
range of activities for all seasons. As always in the north,
camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, swimming, canoeing, hiking,
skiing, horseback riding, and many other outdoors pursuits are
available in abundance.
The Sudbury Region
offers big city shopping at stores such as Costco, Chapters, Home
Depot, and local malls. The downtown area is full of small shops,
art and gift centers, and coffee shops. The Silver City Cinema, Imax
Theater, Science North Science Centre, Big Nickel Mine Tours,
Sudbury Downs Race Track and Slots, local theater groups, museums,
parks, farms, golf courses, and art galleries offer year round, any
weather, activities for the whole family. The summer months are full
of local festivals and events enough to keep even the most jaded
entertained.
The
French River area is unspoiled, quiet, and feels far from the beaten
path. This area is full of historic waterways and trails. The
scenery is breathtaking, the boating and fishing to die for, and
hiking a dream come true.
The Parry Sound area
offers island cruises through the 30,000 islands of Gregorian Bay,
the Festival of Sound in July, air tours, hiking trails, museums,
sailing and sailing races, diving, boating, fishing, golfing,
snowmobiling, parks, a number of ghost towns, and a large selection of motels, resorts and
camps.
The area including
Espanola, Massey, Manitoulin Island and Killarney are considered by
many to be the true Heart of Rainbow Country. Many residents of this
area claim they are the only "real" Rainbow Country, but we'll leave
that one alone! The entry towns of Massey and Espanola offer
golfing, fishing, and camping in abundance. The town of Little
Current on Manitoulin Island is the gateway to truly world class
sailing. Crossing the swing bridge to the Island is like stepping
into another time zone. Time seems to move slower here, you'll feel
your cares were left back on the mainland. The Killarney area is
considered by many travelers to be one of the most beautiful
anywhere. This whole area boasts some of the north's most
spectacular scenery. White granite hills, water falls, streams, wind
swept hills, towering pines, and lakes to numerous to count all
combine to offer you a vacation you're not likely to ever forget.
