Fort Frances in Sunset Country
Fort Frances , located in
Northwestern Ontario, is the hub of the Rainy River District.
Sharing a common border with Minnesota the Rainy River District gets
the better of two nations and bears the distinction of being the
oldest settled community west of Lake Superior. The warm, friendly
people live in a relaxed and satisfying lifestyle with superb
natural treasures and exciting outdoor activities, coupled with
great entertainment.
Just east of the city, take a drive on the Noden Causeway, linking
many islands together. Bring your camera because the views are
breathtaking.
Fort Frances also hosts one of the
highest paying bass tournament on the last weekend in July.
Registrations are limited to 120 teams. For those who are more into
history, spend the day at Old Fort St. Pierre which is open during
the summer months.
For the outdoor enthusiast, Rainy
Lake hosts fantastic fishing on your own or with well qualified
local guides. The Eighth Street Hiking and Ski Trails give nature
lovers a chance to walk into and observe rich bog habitat and in the
winter, the trails double as cross country trails.
For paddlers, canoeing and kayaking
is available and sailors enjoy a variety of lake conditions that
will their skills.
Winter months in the Fort Frances
area bring a different twist. With an average snow fall of 5 feet,
the winter months offer the whole gamut of winter activities.
