Pottery
From Chile...
Ceramic products,
Pomarie, Chile
Nearly
everyone in the village of Pomarie, Chile, makes or sells ceramic
products. Clay comes
from nearby mountains. In
this traditional pottery village, many of the techniques used have
been handed down from generation to generation.
Lucio Malhue works with his brother Orlando in a workshop
began by their parents. Today
20 men and women are employed in this workshop.
Each piece they create is sun dried, then smoothed and
burnished with agate stone before being fired.
No glace or varnish is used.
Comparte, which means “share”, is a Chilean
Christian organization that provides assistance to artisans like
Orlando and Lucio by finding export markets for their creations.
