Our New Facility – Spring 2006!
Wild at Heart currently operates within the Walden Animal Hospital,
where we are fortunate enough to benefit from veterinary care and
equipment for wildlife donated by the hospital. However, due to the
increasing need for our services, we need to expand and construct our
own facility that will allow us to treat more wild animals.
The new facility will be approximately 1600 sqft and will be situated on
2 acres located next to the Walden Animal Hospital. It will feature 8 ft
perimeter chain-link fencing, 4 new small mammal enclosures, 2 new small
bird aviaries and a new large raptor flight cage.
The facility will be open to the public, who will be able to view
wildlife through remote means, such as one-way glass and video cameras
so the wildlife are unaware they are being watched. We will be
constructing an education area within the facility that will include
permanent educational displays and an area to hold seminars and courses.
Outside of the facility, we will be constructing hiking trails for
visitors to enjoy.
The construction of this new facility will allow us to:
• treat more animals,
• keep the wildlife species completely isolated from domestic species
being treated at the animal hospital,
• provide increased education about wildlife issues in our community,
• make what we do at Wild at Heart more accessible to the community,
• and give us our own space and our own identity as an organization.
The anticipated start date for construction is May 2006.
