The Horses
We have 10 horses for our program, some of which
belong to the Association, and some that were donated to us by Lydia
and Mike Dubanow of Rainbow Stables (5 horses, 2 large ponies, 2
small ponies and 1 mule). The horses range in age from 6 years to
24 years and are at various stages of training. 2 are trained for
harness, and 1 is in training.

Sico
Sico is a 10 yr. old paint mare standing 15.2 hh.
weighing 1100 lbs. Her bright color, long mane and quiet personality
makes Sico a very popular lady. She came to us in 2005, and fit into
the program immediately and just loves trail rides.

Applejack
A 7 yr. old black and white pinto pony gelding standing 13.1 hh
and weighs about 800 lbs. He has been in our program for 3 years
now, and is our most prized driving pony. He was asked to join a
marathon 4-in-hand to compete overseas in 2003, but he is needed
here. "Jack”, as he is affectionately known, has also competed
locally in both the English and western disciplines, as well as
in driving competitions. He also loves cross-country jumping, and
is a very dependable trail horse. His collection of trophies and
ribbons continues to increase.
Sam-I-Am
A 10 yr. old strawberry roan pony gelding standing at 11 h.h. and
weighs about 550 lbs. Sam has been in our program for 3 years and
is especially loved by the little riders. Sam is full of energy
and is used for riding and driving. He also has competed locally
and regionally, winning numerous ribbons and trophies with his ridersand
drivers.

Rustic Lady
Rustic also known as Rusty, is a 9 yr. old. Tennessee Walker
palomino mare standing 14.3 hh. and weighs about 950 lbs. Rusty is
very vocal and curious, and is also a great trail horse. She will
join the program at a later date.

Col. Hi Jinx
“Digger” as he is affectionately
called is a black 8-year-old Morgan cross pony gelding standing
13.2 h.h. and weighs about 900 lbs. He just joined our program in
July 2002. He has a wonderfully steady gait, loves cross-country
jumping, and is a steadfast and dependable trail horse. He is currently
being trained to drive and will eventually be teamed up with Applejack.
They will make a beautiful pair.
Armbro
Thumper
A 6 yr. old
bay Standardbred mare standing 15.3 h.h. and weighs about 1100 lbs.
She is an ex-harness racer who we adopted in 1999 through the Ontario
Standardbred Adoption Society for our driving program. See their
website at
http://www.digitalwave.ca/osas. She took to being ridden with
enthusiasm, loves the trail and is now learning how to jump. She
has been shown in harness locally, and has done demonstrations and
given buggy rides in our fundraising activities. She is the silly
one in the herd, and if there is mischief to be done, she will do
it. Thumper always puts a smile on everyone.
Moonlight Shasta
The daughter of Sunkisst Poco, Moonlight is an 18
yr.
old registered Appaloosa mare standing 15.1 hh and weighs about
1100 lbs. Moonlight gradually entered our program, taking over during
lameness, illness or absenteeism of other therapy horses, and then
because of her dependability, joined the program full time. Moonlight
is a talented jumper, enjoys the challenge of the cross-country
fences, and has a trot that anyone can sit to. Like her mother,
she has shown both locally and regionally, and has boxes of ribbons
and trophies to prove it.
Red
Venture
A 22 yr. old registered appaloosa gelding standing 16.1 h.h. and
weighing about 1200 lbs. He is the herd leader, and is our coach’s
event horse and western pleasure horse. He is an extremely talented
jumper, but his favorite discipline is cross-country fences. Red
Venture also has competed locally and regionally earning many prizes,
ribbons and trophies. He is not one of our therapy horses as only
experienced riders can ride him, but on rare occasions, he has been
used in the program, to the delight of our riders.
Little
Bit
A grey 4 year old mule (Hinny) standing 11.1 h.h. and weighs approximately
500 lbs. Her mother was a donkey, and her father was a horse. She
helps us fundraise by helping with pony rides. She was in the petting
barn at the Fall Fair where she got lots of attention from everyone.
Little Bit is being trained for our riding program, as well as for
driving. She loves attention, and is a big hit with our riders and
volunteers. Where there is lovin' to be found, Little Bit will be
there!

La Petite Pooka
A dark brown, 8 year old Standardbred mare standing 14.2 h.h., weighing
approximately 1000 lbs. who we adopted through the Ontario Standardbred
Adoption Society. Like Thumper, she is an ex-harness racer. Her
small stature and narrow build are an asset to our riding program.
She is a friendly little horse, who quickly rose up within the herd
ranks to third of eleven. Pooka's inquisitive nature makes her a
great trail horse - she loves to explore new places. Pooka will
also be used in our driving program.
